I call this the “Unusual Food Guide to Paris” because instead of sharing where to dine and drink, I’ll be sharing where to buy food curious ingredients in the city!
No matter where I live, I almost always prefer being in my kitchen—experimenting with new flavors and recipe ideas—rather than eating out. And in this food curious life, discovering new shops filled with fascinating ingredients is an endless thrill!
Having recently returned to Paris and its surrounding region after 15 years abroad, I’ve been rediscovering the best places to source unique, high-quality ingredients. So, I figured—why not share the places I’ve truly grown to love?
What matters most to me are shops that feel authentic—places deeply connected to the communities they serve. I’m not easily swayed by aesthetics or fancy packaging; for me, it’s all about what’s inside. It’s all about flavor!
This list is constantly evolving as I continue to explore and reacquaint myself with the city. But for now—enjoy!

Sabah Aligre (Middle Eastern/Mediterranean Grocery)
At the tip of Rue d’Aligre, just as you step out of the Marché d’Aligre, you’ll find Sabah. This warm and welcoming store is run by a family with a passion for spices and flavors in their DNA. It’s a treasure trove of seasonings, herbs, and specialty ingredients from the Middle East. Don’t miss the fresh nuts, dried fruits, and an impressive selection of spices. 6 Place d’Aligre, 75012 Paris
Les Délices d’Orient (Lebanese Grocery)
A Lebanese food haven in the 15th arrondissement, Les Délices d’Orient specializes in ingredients from the Levant. This store is a must-visit for its rich collection of spices, tahini, pomegranate molasses, and fresh produce like molokhia (a rare find in Paris!), ba’aleh, and other Levantine specialties. 164 Rue de la Croix Nivert, 75015 Paris
Frères Tang (Chinese)
The flagship store of Frères Tang is a staple for Asian ingredients in Paris, located in the heart of the city’s Chinatown in the 13th arrondissement. This sprawling supermarket offers an impressive variety of fresh produce, exotic spices, noodles, sauces, and specialty ingredients from China, Vietnam, Thailand, and beyond. Whether you’re looking for fresh tofu, rare mushrooms, or authentic condiments, Frères Tang is a go-to destination for home cooks and professional chefs alike. For Korean & Japanese specialties, head to Ace Mart, a well-stocked store with everything from gochujang and kimchi to fresh Asian vegetables. While you’re in the area, stop by Dear Jane across the street for an excellent matcha latte. 63 Rue Sainte-Anne, 75002 Paris
Terres d’Avenir (Local Fresh Produce & Food Items)
With several food specialty shops on the same street- I’m especially referring to the beautifully curated fresh produce one! Terres d’Avenir is known for its locally grown, high-quality fruits and vegetables. The shelves look like a postcard, but you’re also guaranteed to find high quality items grown with love. 7 Rue du Nil, 75002 Paris
Superse (Persian)
The 15th has quite a few Persian supermarkets, but Superse is my favorite. Great selection of all sorts of ingredients inviting you into what may be a new culture for you. You’re guaranteed to walk out having learned about at least 1 new ingredient you never knew existed! 36 Rue Lecourbe, 75015 Paris

Velan (South Asian/Indian)
Located in Passage Brady, the heart of Paris’ Indian quarter, Velan is a must-visit for South Asian flavors. You’ll find everything from fenugreek leaves to achaar to unique spices like smoked pine salt- and also the good vibes section of incense, resins and Ayurvedic products is a must! 87 Passage Brady, 75010 Paris
Royal Alimentation (South Asian/Tropical produce)
This place is actually a South Asian store that sells all things tropical that reminded me of my years in Jamaica. Indeed, a hidden gem for finding naseberry, fresh moringa leaves and fresh curry leaves, and other tropical flavors that bring back delicious memories. 90 Rue du Faubourg Saint-Denis, 75010 Paris
Bokaymax (Caribbean/French West Indies)
Bokaymax is a warm and inviting grocery store that transports you straight to the French West Indies, specializing in ingredients and prepared foods from Martinique and Guadeloupe. You’ll also find fresh produce—possibly the only place in Paris where you can score fresh breadfruit if you’re lucky—along with rhum arrangé, freshly baked pastries, cooked dishes, spices, oils, and condiments galore- because what is life without condiments. The real cherry on top? The exceptionally friendly staff, bringing true island vibes to the heart of the city. 14 bd Belleville, 75020 Paris
La Tienda (Latino/Hispanic)
While the Hispanic/Latino community in Paris may not be the largest, you can still find stores specializing in ingredients from Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, and beyond. La Tienda is one such gem—its shelves are packed with a variety of maíz, dried legumes, and an array of dried peppers, alongside rows of sweet delights, from dulce de leche to tamarind candies. A true taste of South America, a region of the world rich in flavorful cuisine. 135 Rue du Faubourg du Temple, 75010 Paris
Le Caire a Paris (Egyptian/Middle East)
tep into Le Caire à Paris, and you’ll feel transported to Egypt’s Khan el Khalili souk. This mystical, magical space is filled with captivating spices and blends that entice from every shelf. Open for over 30 years, it’s a treasure trove of unique ingredients—I’m especially fond of their housemade spice and coffee blends. 60 Rue de Belleville, 75019 Paris

Markets & Fresh Produce
Marché d’Aligre
A vibrant and diverse open-air market near Bastille and the Gare de Lyon, Marché d’Aligre is one of my favorite places for fresh produce, spices, and specialty ingredients. The market is one of the few places where I can find wormwood (absinthe), and the vendors are always warm and welcoming. Place d’Aligre, 75012 Paris
Marché Barbès
Located under a metro station bridge, this lively market caters to a Middle Eastern, African, Indian, and West Indian crowd. The prices are unbeatable, and you can find everything from fresh tropical produce to hard-to-find ingredients like naseberry. The atmosphere is full of energy, but keep an eye on your belongings as it can get busy and intense! Boulevard de la Chapelle, 75018 Paris (open Wednesdays and Saturdays)
Marché de Notre-Dame (Versailles)
A must-visit for serious food lovers, this market is popular with locals, chefs, and food enthusiasts. It’s very postcard pretty and offers a quintessential French experience. Open on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, with the best selections typically available on Fridays and Sundays. Place du Marché Notre-Dame, 78000 Versailles
